Beautiful losers

Watch Beautiful Losers, it's the best documentary I've seen in ages and alleviated some of the boredom of Christmas.

First day issue stamps from the 1980s

My Grandad used to run a village post office and would just stamp and send plain letters to me as soon as he got any new stamps in. I have only just been given these back - I think he must have known I would appreciate them one day.

Ed Ruscha at Hayward Gallery

The most impressive thing about Ed Ruscha's work is his ability to paint a perfect, seamless gradient, as a graphic designer this baffles me as I would only ever be able to cheat. Get down to The Hayward, it's really worth seeing.

One of funniest scenes ever

Sting speaks the truth

I'm not a big fan of Sting but yesterday he hit the nail on the head when he criticised X Factor. I know he's not the only one who finds it depressing but at least when he speaks out people listen. I don't know why more musicians haven't expressed their opinions on the matter. I know people will argue it's 'just entertainment' but the viewing figures are so high it does suggest a lot people have their priorities seriously wrong. Read it here

Tibor congratulated me on my last official day at work with this lovely image. I must be cursed as it's 1.33am and I'm still here -they are sure getting value for their money until the (bitter) end.

Weird

I just saw an advert for the new Gregg's 'Halloween chilli steak lattice'. That is just bizarre and gross and can only imagine it is so called as it would give you spooky shits for up to a week.

A family with Santa through the years

My friend Jane sent me these from Australia. I feel like the set is incomplete, but I imagine the other years are much the same with the sinister looking Santa and forced smiles. I've also added a delightful photo of Matthew sporting a cracking mullet.

100 year old Russian photos

A sneak peek

Behind the scenes at the shoot last night!

NKOTB souvenirs

We just did a photoshoot for WIAB so I bought a whole load of NKOTB memorabilia off Ebay. I literally have hundreds of items and I can't stop looking at them. I always thought they were a bunch of assholes but you can't knock their sartorial choices back in the day. Why does no one dress like this anymore? (apart from ironic twats in Dalston). Look at Joey's jeans (4th down) and as for Donnie he is just so gangsta -a rebel!

Make Your Way Around Britain

When we shot Mary Jane for WIAB she also asked Emilie and I to photograph her for her trip around Britain which she explains here. Once again the lovely people at Madworld lent me the union jack cape that MJ is wearing as a skirt. For the record - I'm not a stylist ;)

Walking in my mind at The Hayward

I managed to catch the last week of this exhibition. Like any group show it was hit and miss but I especially liked Keith Tyson and Yayoi Kusama's work. We walked inside Thomas Hirschhorn's cave and it just made me think not a lot is going in in his mind. He went to a huge effort to build this giant installation so it seemed a shame that it was so literal, there was even a teenage bedroom area -so he wasn't exactly reaching into the dark recesses of his imagination. Work was either shocking in a cliched way or slightly cautious as if the artists weren't brave enough to actually reveal the inner workings of their minds - from a visual perspective it was great though!

Nice gems

My new wellies

I'm going to Bestival this weekend so I bought some new wellies. I'm convinced that if I wear them it won't rain.

Dave's new website

This is one of the most striking images from Dave's new website, we had a lot of fun deciding who should make the list...

Dazzle car

As I'm finally learning to drive at the age of 28 I'm beginning to take more of an interest in cars. I only like old cars but know if I bought one it would be a hunk of junk and I would spend a fortune getting it fixed. Look at this 'dazzle car'- I've just learned that dazzle painting was a camouflage technique used by allied forces during WW1. Ships were painted in large geometrical patterns and contrasting colours in an attempt to confuse the German navy. I might paint my car like this (when I get one), to confuse the pesky kids who always vandalise cars on our road.

Devon delights

I've just got back from a girls' weekend in Devon. We had the most perfect day yesterday that involved going to a beach, eating fish & chips, meeting a siamese cat, a cream tea, cocktails and a village fete. The fete was pretty special and it seems East Prawle is the place to be. We saw none other than royal correspondent Jennie Bond, Damon Albarn (looking really bizarre in an 'I love Devon' t-shirt and ill-fitting shorts) and the lead singer out of Curiosity Killed the Cat. I am quite glad to be home now as the abundance of horrific footwear (Crocs being the most common and offensive) and lack of bras on middle-aged women is enough to make me sick.

mild obsession

I have a mild obsession with the new Horrors album. They've gone in a really new direction as the album's produced by Chris Cunningham (I'm assuming it is THE Chris Cunningham) and Geoff Barrow of Portishead. They're going to get tired of My Bloody Valentine comparisons but worse things could be said.

7'' car boot beauties

Squeeze - Take Me I'm Yours (1978).
Blancmange - Blind Vision (1983)

I don't just buy them for their covers although these ones are pretty out there. I love that Squeeze song so it was a 50p well spent. Get down to Battersea car boot for some treasures but look hard and haggle hard!
